Beaver Scouts are boys and girls aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest section in the Scouting family.

Easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts, Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. They usually meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony.

Fun and Friends

The 1st Leigh Beaver Scout Motto is Fun and Friends and they certainly experience this in our Groups! With activities ranging from treasure hunts, to making model aeroplanes, to blindfold food tasting, there really is something for everyone. Most of our Colonies cover a wide selection of schools, so your child will meet new people and make firm friends.

Nights Away

Beaver Scout Colonies also have sleepovers. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home. They can be in halls, in tents or at a Scout Activity Centre. There are lots of possibilities and they often have themes to keep them fun and exciting.

Earning Badges

One of the most important, (well for Beavers anyway!) things about Beavers is working towards and earning badges. Beaver Scouts have lots of different badges to cover topics such as caring for animals, exploring new places, science experiments and many more! There are also Challenge Awards which are designed to get the Beavers to try new and often different activities. When Beaver Scouts have completed all six Challenge Awards they are awarded the Chief Scouts Bronze Award, the highest award a Beaver Scout can earn.

What's Next?

When a Beaver Scout gets close to their 8th birthday they begin finding out about Cub Scouts and "swim up" to the Cub Pack. Swimming up is a chance to say goodbye to their fellow Beavers, reflect on what they have done at Beavers and say hello to new friends and adventures in Cubs.
