The third section in the Scouting family is Scouts. These are boys and girls aged 10½ to 14 and have often moved up from Cubs. Scouts are found all over the world and we have a fair few at 1st Leigh! As well as adventure, our Scouts learn leadership skills, teamwork, to try new things and build on their existing skills.

Scouts started in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour and the movement has grown to world wide proportions. Led by Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, the adventure happens at 1st Leigh every week.

Adventurous Activities​

Scouts at 1st Leigh enjoy many activities including hikes, cooking competitions, camping skills competitions as well as pioneering and fire lighting. Whilst at Scouts your child can work towards over 70 different badges covering nearly every hobby; from painting, to circus skills, to DIY, to martial arts, to photography, there's even one for enjoying watching sport! Scouts also have a series of challenge badges and if they complete eight of these they are awarded the Chief Scout's Gold award, the highest award they can achieve in the Scout section.

Working Together​

Our Scout Troops cover a selection of schools, so your child will make new friends. Scouts work in Patrols to encourage team work and helping each other. One of the Scouts in a Patrol is the Patrol Leader, who looks after new Scouts, makes sure that everyone gets their say and passes on skills. Scouts make their own decisions and are often involved in planning their own programme of activities.

Nights Away​

Scouts enjoy many residential experiences, whether its staying in purpose built bunkhouses, on local Scout Campsites, at Scout Activity Centres or just in a field, wherever they end up its always fun! . While your Scout is away you can be sure that their leaders have the right experience and training to handle the adventure.

When a Scout gets to 14, they begin to move onto Explorers and start their next adventure!
